The ESG Reporting Standard is a tool for measuring, managing, reporting and interpreting community impact generated by the Australian community housing sector.
At present, the Standard is voluntary and has been developed for, and in consultation with, the community housing sector to ensure that it supports their needs and fulfils the goal of making sector value more transparent to lenders and investors.
CHIA is working closely with a Steering Committee to oversee the implementation of the ESG Reporting Standard. Its members are listed below.
Community housing providers, lenders and investors are invited to Adopt or Support the ESG Reporting Standard. An outline of Adopter and Supporter commitments is provided below.
What does this mean for my organisation? Here is an explanation of the two roles and their commitments.
As an Adopter
- For housing providers: Commits to annual reporting against all Core criteria of the Standard (and preferably Enhanced) and to publicly disclosing their report on their website.
- For lenders and investors: Commits to integrating the Standard into their investment and credit policies, processes, and/or product design. Shares an annual update of activities to integrate the new ESG Standard in investment processes.
